Girls basketball: Benton clinches share of District 1-4A title; Bossier, Plain Dealing win

The Benton Lady Tigers clinched a share of the District 1-4A girls basketball title with a 66-52 victory over Minden Tuesday night at Benton.

Benton (24-8, 8-1) leads Bossier (20-6, 7-2), which routed Huntington 66-38 Tuesday, and Fair Park (17-11, 7-2) by one game with one to play. The Lady Tigers can win the title outright with a victory over second-to-last place Northwood in their regular-season finale Friday night at home.

In District 1-5A, Haughton fell to district champ Southwood 69-35 at Southwood. The Lady Bucs visit Airline in the final game of the season for both teams Friday. Airline was idle Tuesday.

In District 1-1A, Plain Dealing posted a 59-26 road victory over D’Arbonne Woods. The Lady Lions (21-6, 12-1) visit Arcadia (26-1, 13-0) Friday in their regular-season finale with a chance to earn a share of the district championship. Arcadia won the first district meeting 56-45 on Jan. 19.

At Benton, Benton trailed by three at the half and then took control with an 18-5 third-quarter burst. Emily Ward and Brandy Harris led the Lady Tigers with 25 and 23 points, respectively. Lele Carper, Abbie Wynn and Lazaria Lloyd combined for 16.

At Bossier, Brittany Wallace had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Kats to the victory. Necka Wynn scored 16 points. Destiny Thomas had 10 points and Tia Walker grabbed 10 rebounds.

At Farmerville, Dra Briggs led Plain Dealing with 14 points. Teaunna Perry added 12 and Draunatika Thomas 11.
