Girls basketball: Bossier gets first win for new coach Williams

Tia Walker hit a layup at the buzzer to lift the Bossier Lady Kats to a 48-47 victory over South Beauregard on Thursday night at Bossier.

It was the first win for new Bossier coach DeShawn Williams. The Lady Kats improved to 1-1.

Bossier rallied from 13 points down.

Walker, who sat out the second quarter and much of the third, scored 13 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter. She drove the length of the court in 6.7 seconds.

“I believe Tia was frustrated because South Beauregard brought a lot of pressure, which took her out of her game initially,” Williams said in an email. “After great motivation from the assistant coach Kalyn Shorter, Tia was primed and ready.”

Destiny Thomas led Bossier in scoring with 16. She also had eight rebounds and five steals.

Brittany Wallace played tough under the basket, grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds. Necka Wynn chipped in with seven points.

Bossier next plays in the Thanksgiving Classic at BTW Monday through Wednesday.
