The Haughton Lady Bucs opened District 1-5A play Tuesday night with a 50-44 victory over defending champion Southwood.
It was Southwood’s first district loss since the 2010-11 season. The Lady Cowboys had won 32 straight in district play.
Elsewhere, Benton opened District 1-4A play with a 56-32 loss at Fair Park, and Bossier dropped a 64-55 decision to Evangel in a District 1-3A opener at home. Plain Dealing opened District 1-1A play with a 52-30 win over Ringgold.
At Southwood, Ebone’ Green scored 17 points to lead the Lady Bucs. Green was 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. That was key was Southwood had cut an 11-point Lady Bucs’ lead to three with about four minutes left to play.
Chelcy Swint added 10 points for Haughton, which improved to 13-4 overall.
At Bossier, Gabbie Mason led Bossier with 15 points. Tia Walker added 12 and Brittany Wallace 11.
The Lady Kats (8-13, 1-1) led 24-21 at the half and trailed by only three with about five minutes to play. But turnovers and cold shooting by Bossier helped Evangel (12-9, 1-1) take control. Bossier missed 13 free throws in the final quarter.
At Fair Park, the Lady Indians (15-5) were too much for the Lady Tigers (6-13). Brandy Harris led Benton with 14 points.
