The Haughton Lady Bucs won a 59-57 overtime thriller over the Airline Lady Vikings on Tuesday night at Haughton.
Ebone’ Green scored the winning basket with about 1 second left. She drove the length of the court after an Airline miss and put up the shot underneath the basket.
Madison Rowland hit a 3-pointer to give the Lady Vikings a 57-54 lead with 31.4 seconds left. Haley Myers answered with a 3-pointer with about 20 seconds left.
Airline’s Kei McCoy drove to the basket and barely missed a layup. Airline also just missed a follow and Green went coast-to-coast for the win.
McCoy was outstanding in overtime and throughout the game. She led Airline with 21 points, including seven in OT. She also hit a 3-pointer with 6.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Haughton led 24-16 late in the second quarter, but Airline went on a 16-4 run to grab the lead midway through the third. The game remained close the rest of the way.
Green led the Lady Bucs with 16 points, including four straight free throws down the stretch in regulation. Bethany Knotts scored 11. She hit a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and a free throw to give Haughton the three-point lead near the end of regulation.
Chelcy Swint added eight points for Haughton and was a force on the boards.
Rowland hit four 3-pointers, including a big one in the fourth quarter, and finished with 12 points. Tish Reney also scored 12 points. She hit a 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer to give Airline a 35-32 lead.
Haughton improved to 16-5 overall and 4-1 in 1-5A. The Lady Bucs are tied with Southwood for first going into the second round of district play.
Airline (16-6, 3-2) is just one game behind the leaders.
Elsewhere Tuesday, Benton routed Huntington 76-25 in a District 1-4A game at Benton. Bossier rolled past North Webster 65-24 in a District 1-3A game at Bossier. Plain Dealing dropped Haynesville 51-39 in a District 1-1A game and Haynesville.
Parkway dropped a 44-39 decision to Captain Shreve in a District 1-5A game at Shreve.
At Benton, Gabby Jackson scored 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers to their seventh win of the season. Brandy Harris added 14 points and Lele Carper 10.
At Bossier, Shermicheal Johnson and Gabbie Mason scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, to lift the Lady Kats to the victory. Eight other Bossier players scored in the rout.
Bossier (11-14, 4-2) is tied for second with Evangel in 1-3A.
Plain Dealing improved to 12-8 overall and 3-1 in 1-1A with the victory over Haynesville.
