Three parish team picked up girls basketball district victories Friday night.
The Haughton Lady Bucs downed Byrd 50-44 at Byrd to claim sole possession of second place in District 1-5A. The Lady Bucs avenged a 48-36 district loss to Byrd on Jan. 20.
The Airline Lady Vikings defeated Parkway 51-25 in another 1-5A game at Parkway.
With two games left to play, Haughton (17-6, 6-2) trails leader Southwood by one game. Airline (18-7, 4-3) and Byrd are just two games back.
Airline and Southwood face off Tuesday at Airline.
Elsewhere, the Plain Dealing Lady Lions dropped Cedar Creek 53-28 in Plain Dealing. Plain Dealing (15-7, 7-1) visits Arcadia Tuesday with a chance to grab a share of the District 1-1A lead.
Benton fell to Fair Park 59-34 in a District 1-4A game at Benton. Bossier lost to Green Oaks 63-59 in a District 1-3A game at Green Oaks.
At Byrd, Haughton raced to a 17-5 first-quarter lead. Inez Green scored seven of her 14 points in the period. The Lady Bucs cooled off in the second quarter but still led 25-18 at the half.
A strong third quarter allowed Haughton to take a 10-point lead into the final period. Ebone’ Green also scored 14 points for the Lady Bucs. Lomia Watkins and Chelsea Swint had six apiece.
At Parkway, Kei McCoy tossed in 18 points to lift Airline the to the victory. Tyra Kidd added 13. Madison Rowland scored seven with all of that coming in the first half as the Lady Vikings took a commanding 32-13 lead.
At Plain Dealing, Dra Briggs paced the Lady Lions with 16 points. Draunautika Thomas added 11. Teaunna Perry and Hersey Stumon scored 10 each.
At Benton, the Lady Tigers fell behind 12-2 and then played some inspired basketball against the 1-4A leader on Senior Night, going on a 17-2 run. But Fair Park got back on track and led 34-24 at the half.
The Lady Indians (21-6, 8-0) clinched a share of the district title.
