The Haughton Lady Bucs and Airline Lady Vikings picked up girls basketball victories Tuesday night.
Haughton held off the Benton Lady Tigers 53-48 at Haughton. Airline rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Ruston 41-38.
At Haughton, Chelcy Swint scored 20 points and Ebone’ Green 13 to lead the Lady Bucs (12-3). Aimee Gentry and Gabby Jackson scored 16 each for the Lady Tigers (5-12).
Benton trailed by as many as nine points in the third quarter but rallied and made a game of it in the fourth. Gentry nailed a 3-pointer from just behind the top of the arc with 25 seconds left to tie it at 48.
But Green was immediately fouled and hit two free throws to give Haughton the lead for good. Green hit five straight free throws in the final 25 seconds before finally missing her final one.
At Ruston, Airline trailed the Lady Bearcats 27-18 at the half. But the Lady Vikings held Ruston scoreless in the third quarter and led 28-27 going into the fourth.
Tyra Kidd scored 14 points and Kei McCoy 13 to lead Airline (13-4). Madison Rowland added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
Jesse Anderson paced Ruston with 18 points.
