Girls basketball: Haughton, Plain Dealing win district games

The Haughton Lady Bucs and Plain Dealing Lady Lions posted girls district basketball victories Tuesday night.

Haughton downed Captain Shreve 51-38 in a District 1-5A game at Shreve. Plain Dealing knocked off Grambling 49-34 in a District 1-1A game at Plain Dealing.

Elsewhere in 1-5A, Airline fell to Byrd 62-53 at Byrd and Parkway lost to district leader Southwood 62-32 at Southwood.

In 1-3A, Benton fell to Loyola 56-36 at Benton.

At Shreve, Ebone’ Green scored 19 points and Haley Myers added 12 to lead the Lady Bucs to the victory.

Cassandra Simmons was six of seven from the free throw line and finished with eight points. Lomia Watkins added seven.

Haughton trailed 20-17 at the half and then outscored the Lady Gators 17-7 in the third.

The Lady Bucs improved to 17-6 overall and 5-2 in 1-5A. They are tied for second with Byrd, a game behind leader Southwood.

At Plain Dealing, Teaunna Perry poured in 20 points to lead the Lady Lions to the win.

Plain Dealing improved to 14-7 overall and 6-1 in 1-A. If they defeat Cedar Creek at home Friday, the Lady Lions will have a chance to earn a share of the lead at Arcadia Tuesday.

At Byrd, Airline dropped to 17-7 overall and 4-3 in 1-5A with the loss.

Despite very good overall records, Haughton and Airline are both on the bubble for playoff berths.
