Girls basketball: Parkway, Benton get wins in Benton tourney; Plain Dealing slips past Haughton

The Benton Lady Tigers and Parkway Lady Panthers posted victories in the Trak-1 Background Screening Benton Lady Tigers tournament on Friday.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Panthers both defeated Class B Simsboro — Benton 54-16 and Parkway 64-11.

Red River won twice, defeating Southwood 64-59 and Airline 58-39.

Lazaria Lloyd and Emily Ward led Benton with 13 and 11 pounds, respectively. Abbie Wynn added nine.

Chelsea Randle led nine Parkway players who scored with 18 points. Niaya Fant added 12, Kendall Lewis 11 and Jada Hearne 10.

Tyra Kidd paced Airline with 17 points against Red River.

Red River’s Lakeya Lewis led her team in both victories, scoring 17 against Southwood and 23 against Airline.

The tournament continues today with eight games. The first four will be split between the high school and middle school gyms.

In the high school gym, Airline faces Southwood at 1 and Benton plays Parkway at 2:30. In the middle school gym, West Ouachita takes on Simsboro at 1 and Red River plays Northwood at 2:30.

After those games, standings will be determined in Group A and Group B and there will be a seventh-place game at 4, a fifth-place game at 5:30 and a third-place game at 7. The championship game will be at 8:30.

The standings in Group A through two days: West Ouachita 2-0, Benton 1-1, Parkway 1-1, Simsboro 0-2. The standings in Group B: Red River 2-0, Southwood 1-1, Airline 1-1, Northwood 0-2.

In a non-tournament game at Plain Dealing, the host Lady Lions slipped past Haughton 54-50.

Darmesha Noble topped Plain Dealing with 19 points. Hershey Stumon chipped in with 11 and Teunna Perry had nine. Bethany Knotts led the Lady Bucs with 11.
