Girls soccer: Parkway advances to Div. II quarterfinals; Benton suffers tough loss

The Parkway Lady Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division II girls soccer playoffs with a 7-0 rout of Beau Chene on Tuesday night at Centenary.

The news wasn’t as good for the Benton Lady Tigers. Benton, the No. 11 seed, suffered a 3-1 road loss to No. 6 West Ouachita in the second round.

West Ouachita led 1-0 at the half but Benton sophomore Braylin Shaffer tied it with a long distance goal. The game was close to going into overtime, but the Lady Chiefs scored their final two goals in stoppage time.

District 1 champion Parkway (25-5-1), the No. 3 seed, will host West Ouachita (13-8-5) in the quarterfinals. District 1 runner-up Benton finished 14-7-1.

Parkway made quick work of No. 14 Beau Chene (16-8). LSU signee Sara Funderburk scored four of her five goals in the first half and the Lady Panthers led 5-0.

Miranda Scotten had one goal in each half. Madelyn Elliott, Mackenzie Kleinpeter and Funderburk all had one assist.
