Girls soccer: Parkway knocks off Shreve, Calvary

The Parkway Lady Panthers picked up soccer victories Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday night, the Lady Panthers knocked off Captain Shreve 4-1 in a District 1-I game at Lee Hedges Stadium. They followed that with a 6-1 rout of Calvary Tuesday night at Calvary’s Jerry Barker Stadium.

Parkway improved to 10-8-3 overall and 4-1 in district.

Mackenzie Kleinpeter scored two goals in the victory over Shreve, including a penalty kick. Sara Funderburk also scored on an assist from Madison Mitchell. The Lady Panthers also scored an own goal. Madelyn Elliott had four saves.

Kleinpeter and Funderburk had two goals each in Tuesday’s win over Calvary. Morgan Provost and Elliott scored one each. Liz Knight had three assists. Kleinpeter and Ali Kelly had one each.

Parkway didn’t win a game, but the Lady Panthers held their own against some of the state’s top teams in the Mandeville Holiday Classic Dec. 29 and 30.

Parkway played four teams ranked in the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association Division I poll. They lost to No. 2 Dominican 1-0, No. 3 Mandeville 2-0, No. 6 Northshore 2-0 and tied No. 9 Acadiana 0-0.

Parkway lost to Dominican 3-0 in the second round of the playoffs last season.
