Golf: Airline third in Region I-5A tournament; Vikings’ Dial ties for second

Airline finished third Monday in the Region I, Class 5A golf tournament and qualified for next week’s state tournament.

The Vikings shot a 299 at the par-72 Oak Wing Golf Course in Alexandria. Defending state champion Byrd won with a 295. West Monroe was second with a 298.

Airline’s Daniel Dial finished tied for second with a 71, one stroke behind medalist Drew Gonazlez of St. Thomas More. Airline’s Jacob Guest shot a 72 and finished tied for fourth.

Other Vikings in the scoring were Jacob Hill (76) and Carter Jurkovich (80).

The Class 5A state tournament is next Monday and Tuesday at Farm D’Allie in Carencro.
