August 17th is National Thrift Shop Day, a day that celebrates the thrill of finding unique and affordable items. This year, Goodwill is highlighting the importance of sustainability.
For nearly 100 years, Goodwill has been a leader in recycling and repurposing items, striving to sell, repurpose, or recycle every donation received. In 2023, Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana diverted 7.3 million pounds of used goods from landfills, giving them a second life.
Goodwill stores play a crucial role in extending the life of usable items through their business model of collecting and selling donated goods. The funds generated from these sales are reinvested into the local community through employment and job training programs.
To commemorate National Thrift Shop Day, all nine Goodwill stores will offer 25% off all purchases on Saturday, August 17th.
“Goodwill loves to give back to our loyal customers on this special day. It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness of Goodwill’s mission and for individuals to discover the treasures in our stores,” said Shuntikia Larkins, Director of Retail.
