The Haughton Lady Bucs and Benton Lady Tigers advanced to the second round of the LHSAA softball playoffs with victories Tuesday.
The Lady Bucs, seeded No. 13 in Class 5A, knocked off No. 20 St. Joseph’s Academy of Baton Rouge 7-0 at Haughton. The Lady Tigers, seeded seventh in Class 4A, defeated No. 26 Franklinton 11-0 in five innings at Benton.
Haughton (18-10) travels to New Orleans to play No. 4 Mt. Carmel (20-8) Friday at 4 p.m. Haughton lost to Mt. Carmel 4-3 in the West Monroe tournament on March 29.
Benton (18-10) hosts No. 10 Assumption Saturday at 2 p.m. Assumption (15-15) defeated No. 23 Franklin Parish 9-6 in the first round.
Airline, the No. 21 seed in Class 5A, almost pulled off an upset against No. 12 Slidell before losing a 10-9 heartbreaker. The Lady Vikings, who finished the season 15-12, led 8-6 after 4.5 innings, but Northshore scored four in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Airline scored one in the sixth but couldn’t get the tying run.
Parkway, the No. 31 seed in Class 5A, lost to No. 2 Ouachita 6-0 in Monroe. The Lady Panthers finished the season 11-16.
