Haughton High School Marksmanship Team Excels in State and National Competitions

As National Public Schools Week kicks off, Bossier Parish Schools proudly celebrates the achievements of its students, highlighting the remarkable success of the marksmanship team at Haughton High School.

Competing in both the Louisiana Civilian Marksmanship Program State Championship and the Air Force JROTC National Championship, the “Bucs in Blue” showcased their talent and dedication on the competition circuit.

During the State Championship, Haughton High’s varsity team clinched second place overall and secured the top spot in the Air Force Division. The junior varsity team also demonstrated their prowess by earning third place in the Air Force Division. Individually, Kate Lewis impressed with a third-place finish, while Wally Cassel showcased his skills with a commendable 12th place out of 95 competitors.


The journey continued at the Air Force JROTC National Championships in Anniston, Alabama, where the Bucs in Blue achieved a commendable 12th place overall. Among the standout performances was Layla Briggs, who triumphed in an exhilarating finals match, securing fifth place overall out of 101 competitors. Briggs’ outstanding performance earned her an invitation to the All Service JROTC Nationals, slated to take place in March at Camp Perry, Ohio.
