Parade scheduled for Thursday at 5
The 44th annual Haughton High Homecoming Parade will roll Thursday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.
The parade, which is sponsored by the Haughton High School Student Council and marshaled by the school’s J.R.O.T.C. corps, will begin and end in the school’s student parking lot and will turn at the Haughton Post Office on Elm Street (Hwy. 157).
The school is located at 210 E. McKinley in Haughton.
Parade Grand Marshal this year will be Donald W. Rushing.

Mr. Rushing is a native of Haughton. He is a 1968 graduate of Princeton High School; the school is still located in Princeton, but has since become an elementary school.
A high school athlete active in football, basketball, and track, he continued his participation in athletics with a football scholarship at Centenary College, where he was a tight end and later an outside linebacker. Mr. Rushing transferred to Texas College and graduated from there in 1973. He started his career as a science teacher at Parkway High. While there he also coached several sports, including baseball. Under his tenure the school earned its first championship in a major sport in 1976, when he led the baseball team to the District 2-AAAA title and was named Coach of the Year.
He has also served as an assistant principal at Plain Dealing High and Haughton High and was the principal at Butler Elementary prior to his current position as the Hearing Officer in the Bossier Parish School Student Services Department. He has continued his education throughout the years, earning a master’s degree in Administration and additional hours from La. Tech and NSU.
Mr. Rushing was married to the late Marva Rushing, with whom he had four sons, and he is now married to Linda Faye Fontenot. Together they have six sons and six grandchildren. Mr. Rushing has also spent 25 years as a pastor, currently serving at Red River Missionary Baptist Church in Bossier City.
In other Homecoming events, the varsity football team will play the Benton Tigers for the Homecoming game, which will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13. Pre-game activities are scheduled to begin at 6:30. The admission charge will be $8 at the gate.
The 2013 Homecoming Court, serenaded by the Big Red Buccaneer Band, will be presented at halftime. All alumni and several specific classes of graduates will be recognized at halftime as well.
