BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, LA – Barksdale AFB has raised its Health Protection Condition level to Bravo from Condition Normal. According to a press release sent from Barksdale AFB 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs, the move happened Thursday afternoon in response to the spread of COVID-19.
There have been no reported cases of the disease on Barksdale AFB. As the press release states, “this action merely aligns the HPCON with existing precautionary measures, and education of base personnel in preventing potential widespread outbreak.”
The press release also states the following: “the HPCON Bravo declaration defines base measures for a moderate disease threat to base personnel that has the potential to rapidly move into an area. Measures include educating personnel on the threats and precautionary measures, and reviewing plans to limit communication of the disease. As this the situation develops, additional measures may be implemented including restriction of movement on and off Barksdale AFB and an increase to HPCON Charlie.”
Barksdale AFB officials are urging all personnel to use good hygiene practices as the best preventive measure to control the spread of COVID-19 or other viruses. Suggested practices include:
1.) Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
2.) Avoiding contact with others to include handshaking.
3.) Stay home and contact a doctor if you feel ill.
4.) Disinfect frequently touched surfaces help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.
