Louisiana Sports Writers Association and Staff Reports
Benton junior pitcher Landon Joyner has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State first team.
The left-handed Joyner went 11-3 overall, helping Benton reach the Class 4A semifinals. He was 10-1 in the regular season with a 1.068 ERA. He struck out 64 and walked just 15 in 59 innings.
Benton senior catcher Cole Horton, junior infielder Cade Scott, sophomore shortstop Clint Lasiter, junior outfielder Brennan Blaylock and junior outfielder Tanner Timms were all named honorable mention.
Sophomore pitcher Blake McGehee, who led Tioga to its first LHSAA baseball title in 32 years, was named Class 4A’s Outstanding Player. He was 10-2 with a 1.07 ERA. He also batted .343 average and finished with 23 RBIs.
Lakeshore coach Steve Ceravalo was named as the Coach of the Yearafter guiding the Titans to the 4A semifinals in Sulphur for the first time in program history.
