High school baseball: Airline, Benton post victories in Trey Altick tournament

The Airline Vikings and Benton Tigers picked up victories in the Trey Altick tournament Thursday.

Airline defeated Greenbrier, Ark., 4-2 at West Monroe. Benton defeated Evangel Christian 7-2 at Benton.

Also in the Altick tournament, Haughton lost to Eunice 6-2 at Ruston, and Parkway fell to University Lab 15-0.

Ouachita Christian is the host of the Trey Altick tournament. Games are being played at various sites mainly in Northeast Louisiana.

Airline’s Will Tynes pitched five strong innings against Greenbrier. He allowed four hits, struck out nine and walked only two. Hunter Whiteside allowed just one hit in the final two innings.

Hayden Lope had three of the Vikings’ four hits, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. 

Airline (3-2) took advantage of three walks, a hit batter and an error to score three in the fifth. Lope had a two-out RBI single.

Benton’s Clint Lasiter went 3-for-3 with a home run and double against Evangel.

Cameron Ross went 2-for-3. Brennan Blaylock had two RBI. Cade Scott had a double.

The Tigers (6-1) scored four in the first and two in the second.

Starter Brock Van Hoy struck out four and gave up three hits in three innings. Hayden Hable pitched four strong innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking none.

Haughton (4-2) saw its four-game winning streak end against Eunice. The Bucs had four hits, including a double by Carson Gilmore.

Peyton Stovall’s consecutive games with a home run ended at four, but he reached base twice on walks.

Parkway (4-2) gave up 11 runs in the first inning in the five-inning game against University Lab. Three errors and eight walks hurt the Panthers.

Trenton DeFatta had Parkway’s lone hit, a single.
