High school baseball: Airline, Haughton, Parkway, Benton win one game apiece on final day of Altick tournament


Airline, Haughton, Parkway and Benton all picked up one win Saturday on the final day of the Trey Altick tournament hosted by Ouachita Christian.

Airline defeated St. Charles Catholic 4-2 and lost to Tioga 5-0. Haughton defeated Central of Baton Rouge 8-5 and lost to Ouachita Parish 3-2.

Parkway defeated Plaquemine 10-0 and lost to John Curtis Christian 5-0. Benton defeated Alexandria 5-2 and lost to El Dorado, Ark., 6-4.

In a District 1-3A game, Bossier fell to North Webster 14-3 in Springhill.

Brandon Wendrock allowed just three hits with no walks in six innings in Airline’s victory over St. Charles Catholic.

Carson Carey went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Hunter Whiteside went 2-for-3. Five other Vikings had singles.

Will Tynes’ sacrifice fly scored Bryson Connell with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth.

Tynes had a double against Tioga. The Vikings also had three singles.

Kyle Elledge allowed three earned runs in six innings and struck out five.

Airline is 5-3.

Carter Griffin had a double and two RBI in Haughton’s win over Central. Logan Wilkerson and Matthew Whitten had two RBI  each. 

Trailing 4-0 after five, the Bucs scored eight in the top of the sixth.

Haughton took advantage of four walks, a hit batter and an error. They also had all four of their hits in the inning, including singles by Peyton Stovall, Whitten and CJ McWilliams. Griffin’s double followed McWilliams’ single.

Stovall got the win, striking out two after relieving stater Brodie Shankle in the fifth. Shankle struck out eight and walked five.

Ouachita Parish scored two runs in the fifth to tie the game at 2 and then went ahead with one in the sixth. The go-ahead run was scored with two out.

Stovall went 2-for-3 with a double. Logan Wilkerson went 2-for-3. Whitten had a double.

Starter Hunter Jenkins allowed one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. Wilkerson took the loss, pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief of Jenkins.

Haughton is 5-3.

Cade Josting and Peyton Lewis combined on a six-inning two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Parkway’s win over Plaquemine.

Christian Vicknair went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Trenton DeFatta and Hayden Knotts has two hits each. Brandon Levy had two RBI.

Barrett Newman and Vicknair both doubled against John Curtis.

Parkway is 6-3.

Brennan Blaylock and Clint Lasiter had two hits each in Benton’s victory over Alexandria.

Grayson Gates hit a two-run triple with two outs that gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead in the top of the third.

Dane Stearns pitched a complete game, striking out 11.

Benton scored three in the bottom of the seventh against El Dorado but couldn’t quite complete the comeback.

Cameron Ross went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Jack Walters had a triple. 

Hayden Hable pitched a complete game. He allowed seven hits, struck out eight and walked two.

Benton is 7-3.

At North Webster, Coleman Beeson had a double, one of Bossier’s two hits in the five-inning game.

The Bearkats dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in 1-3A.
