High school baseball: Airline, Haughton, Parkway win as regular season comes to an end

Airline, Haughton and Parkway won Monday on the final day of the regular season.

The Vikings defeated Downsville 10-0 and Cedar Creek 4-2 on the road, Haughton downed Jena 8-1 at Haughton and Parkway topped Alexandria 6-4 at Alexandria.

The LHSAA is set to announce playoff pairings Tuesday. District 1-5A champion Benton, runner-up Haughton and Airline will all qualify in non-select Division I with Benton and Haughton receiving first-round byes.

Airline’s Jack Henry Smith pitched a complete game against Cedar Creek. He gave up five hits, struck out seven and walked two. Austin Smith went 2-for-2. 

The Vikings trailed 2-0 after five innings. Marshall Beaver’s one-out double with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth gave Airline the lead. Bo Carter also had a double.

Leo Heng pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks against Downsville.

Seven Vikings combined for 10 hits. Brock Jordan went 2-for-2. Jack Horton went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Austin Smith went 2-for-3. Jack Henry Smith had two RBI.

Airline closed the regular season 20-14.

At Haughton, the Bucs trailed 1-0 after 4 1/2 innings then scored four in the bottom of the fifth and sixth.

JP Cormier went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Justin Adkison went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Parker Presley went 2-for-3. Christian Turner went 2-for-4. Seth Jorstad had two RBI.

Haughton finished the regular season 28-6. The Bucs tied the school record for wins also held by the 1995 and 2003 teams. The 28 wins are also the most since Haughton joined Class 5A in 2012.

At Alexandria, Gabe Armond pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks. 

Trent Howard went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Brady Prine went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Abel Thetford had a double. Armond and Kamron Blackshire had one hit each and walked twice.

Parkway closed its season 13-17.

Bossier dropped a doubleheader at Doyline 3-1 and 10-0. The Bearkats closed their season 9-10.
