High school baseball: Anderson’s big night helps Haughton top Parkway; Airline’s White tosses one-hitter in victory over Shreve

Austin Anderson has come up big for the Haughton Buccaneers all season.

He did it again Monday night, going 3-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBI in a 7-1 District 1-5A victory over the Parkway Panthers at Haughton,

The victory kept the Bucs (22-6, 9-4) in the hunt for a share of the district championship. 

Parkway (19-12, 10-3) could have clinched at least a share of the title with a victory. The Panthers are still in first, a half-game ahead of Benton.

The Tigers can move into a tie for first with a victory over Natchitoches Central (14-16, 3-9) Tuesday in Natchitoches.

Airline (18-11, 9-4) also kept its hopes for a share of the championship alive with a 5-1 victory over Captain Shreve at Shreve.

At Haughton, trailing 1-0, the Bucs took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third.

Parker Lowrie led off with a single and Colin Rains brought him home with a double. After Chan Lytle was hit by a pitch, Anderson doubled to make it 2-1.

Roman Tolbert’s sacrifice fly scored Lytle. Anderson then came home on a single by Joshua Sewell.

Anderson made it 6-1 with a two-run blast with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Lowrie scored after leading off with a walk.

The Bucs scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth. Sewell walked, stole second and scored on a single by Jackson Voigt.

Haughton starter Zach Ross got the win. He allowed three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Gary Rondeau struck out six and gave up just one hit in 2 2/3 innings.

The series is scheduled to conclude Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Parkway.

At Captain Shreve, Airline’s Carter White pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and only one walk. He faced 24 batters and threw 97 pitches.

Matthew Scripture went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Keegan Lehr went 2-for-3 with a double. 

The Vikings scored three in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.

Scripture led off with a single and Clayton Brandon scored him with a double.

Mason Morgan and Lehr had back-to-back doubles with one out, giving the Vikings the two-run lead.

It stayed that way until Airline put two more on the board in the seventh. Carson Carey and Lehr led off with back-to-back singles. Caleb Hemmings advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt.

Caden Long was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tyler Ferguson’s sacrifice fly scored Carey. Scripture then singled home Lehr.

The series is scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m Wednesday at Airline.
