Another outstanding Benton Tigers’ season came to an end Saturday.

Benton, the No. 6 seed, fell to No. 14 Destrehan 4-2 in Game 2 of their non-select Division I quarterfinal series at Benton. The Wildcats, who also won Game 1 4-2 Thursday, won the best-of-3 series two games to none.

Benton closed another outstanding season 29-8-2, coming one victory short of its third straight 30-win season. The Tigers won their second straight District 1-5A championship.

Destrehan (29-12) will face No. 2 seed and defending state champion Sam Houston in the semifinals.

Benton, the designated visiting team, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Bud Burns led off with a single and Slade Stephens followed with a double. Jake Hutchison drew a walk to load the bases.

Kannon Greer’s sacrifice fly scored Burns. But Destrehan starter Josh Muller limited the damage, inducing a flyout and groundout to end the threat.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the inning on a double, single and two errors. Destrehan scored its final run in the third on back-to-back singles.

Benton scored a run with two outs in the sixth. Kannon Greer singled and scored on a double by Case Jorden. The Tigers left runners stranded at first and second.

Burns singled with two outs in the seventh but a groundout ended the game.

Benton also had runners in scoring position in the first and fourth but couldn’t capitalize.

The Tigers finished with eight hits. Greer went 2-for-2. Burns went 2-for-4.

Cole Snell allowed six hits, struck out three and walked three. Only one run against him was earned.

Muller gave up six hits, struck out one and walked four In 5 2/3 innings. Chase Marcotte allowed two hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Brady Carter went 2-for-2.
