The Benton Tigers and Haughton Bucs remained undefeated in District 1-5A with victories Tuesday.
Benton defeated Captain Shreve 13-1 in the first of their two-game series at Shreve. Haughton edged Parkway 8-6 in the first game of their series at Parkway.
Airline suffered its first district loss, falling to Natchitoches Central 7-1 in their series opener at Airline.
Benton and Haughton are the only teams without a district loss.
At Benton, Thomas Allen pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and only one walk in the five-inning game.
Griffin Sibley went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Cole Snell went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Kade Bryant went 3-for-4 with a double.
Case Jorden had a double. Brody Turnipseed had two RBI.
The Tigers (19-1, 5-0) and Gators (13-7, 4-3) are scheduled to complete the series Thursday at Benton at 6. Benton has won eight in a row.
At Haughton, Parkway started fast with four runs in the bottom of the first. But Haughton cut the lead to one with two in the first and one in the second. The Bucs took the lead for good with three in the top of the fourth.
Haughton scored single runs in the fifth and sixth then held off a Panthers rally in the seventh.
Haughton’s Parker Presley went 3-for-4 with a triple, double and two RBI.
Christian Turner and JP Cormier both tripled. Troy Fielding had two hits and three RBI.
Ashton Neighbors got the win in relief. He entered the game in the fourth with the bases loaded and no outs and struck out the side. Neighbors struck out seven in three innings.
Parkway’s Abel Thetford went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Kamron Blackshire went 2-for-4. Dakota Armour had a double and two RBI and also drew two walks.
The Bucs (16-3, 5-0) and Panthers (4-11, 0-5) are scheduled to complete the series Thursday at Haughton at 6. Haughton has won 11 in a row.
At Airline, the Vikings had eight singles but couldn’t turn them into runs. Airline left the bases loaded in the second and fifth. Leo Heng went 2-for-2.
Before the district game, the Vikings and Chiefs completed a North DeSoto tournament game that was suspended on Feb. 14. Airline led 6-3 when it was suspended but the Chiefs rallied for a 17-6 victory.
Jack Henry Smith had two hits and two RBI. Ayden Hawn had two hits.
Airline 12-9, 6-1) and Natchitoches Central (14-5, 5-2) are scheduled to complete the series at Natchitoches Central Thursday at 5.
