High school baseball: Benton lone parish team to win in tournament play Friday

Benton was the only parish team to come away with a win in tournament play Friday.

The Tigers rolled past Ouachita Parish 13-0 in the West Monroe tournament. Haughton fell to the host team 11-5.

West Ouachita defeated both Airline and Parkway in the Sulphur tournament. The Chiefs topped the Vikings 12-7 and the Panthers 15-9.

Colby Sharp pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and only two walks in Benton’s win.

The Tigers and Lions played a scoreless game through five innings. Benton broke it open with eight in the sixth and then added five more in the seventh.

Garrett Hable went 3-for-3 with two doubles. Sam Simmons went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Peyton Long had a double and two RBI.

The Tigers had six of their nine hits in the final two innings.

Benton (15-5) closes the tournament Saturday with games against Captain Shreve and St. Louis Catholic. The Shreve game is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Benton.

Hunter Hollis and Cameron Parikh both went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Airline’s loss. Jonathan Brandon had a triple. Ryan Lawhorne had two RBI.

The Vikings (10-5) face Tioga and Neville on Saturday.

West Ouachita had 14 hits against Airline. The Chiefs’ bats were also hot against Parkway as they pounded out 18 hits.

The Panthers had nine hits spread among eight players. Caleb Reese had two, including a double, and three RBI. Eric Brown had a double and three RBI. Bryan Day also had a double.

Parkway (9-5) closes the tournament with games Saturday against Neville and Zachary.

Jonathan Plant had two hits in Haughton’s loss. Jathon Patton and Nick Heckman had one double each.

The Bucs (7-10) play St. Louis Catholic and East Ascension on Saturday.

Bossier lost two games in the Stanley tournament, falling to Ebarb 12-2 and Stanley 10-0.

Xavier Murphy went 2-for-3 against Ebarb. The Bearkats dropped to 7-12.
