High school baseball: Benton opens 1-5A play with rout of Byrd; two other openers postponed until Wednesday

The Benton Tigers opened District 1-5A play with a 12-0 victory over Byrd Tuesday at the Yellow Jackets’ field at LSUS.

Two other 1-5A openers were postponed until Wednesday because of the thunderstorms that rolled through the area Tuesday morning,

Airline visits Evangel Christian, and Haughton travels to Natchitoches to play Natchitoches Central. Both games start at 6 p.m.

At Benton, Thomas Allen went five innings in the six-inning game. He allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked two.

Hayden Millen went 3-for-3. Case Jorden went 3-for-4. Cole Snell went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Jackson Jones went 2-for-3 with a triple. Griffin Sibley went 2-for-4.

The Tigers (13-1) and Yellow Jackets (4-9) are scheduled to meet again Thursday at Benton at 6.

Bossier picked up its second victory Monday, defeating Ringgold 19-13.
