The Benton Tigers and Parkway Panthers posted baseball victories Thursday night.
Benton downed Ponchatoula 16-8 in a tournament in the New Orleans area. Parkway topped Natchitoches St. Mary’s 12-2 in five innings at home.
In the Sulphur tournament, Airline fell to Tioga 5-1 in its season opener, and Haughton lost to Lake Charles Sam Houston 6-3.
At Parkway, the Panthers (1-1) scored at least two runs in all five innings en route to their first victory.
Winning pitcher Eric Williams allowed just one hit in four innings and struck out five. He also hit a two-run home run.
Eric Brown went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Derious Bradford and Caleb Reese had two RBI each.
At Ponchatoula, the Tigers (2-0) scored at least one run in each of the first six innings, including four in the third, three in the fifth and five in the sixth.
Benton pounded out 10 hits and also took advantage of 10 walks and four Ponchatoula errors. Garrett Hable and Cody Norris had two doubles each. Hable drove in three runs and Norris two.
Sam Simmons went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Peyton Long had two RBI.
Hunter Nycum had two hits in Airline’s loss. Jathon Patton hit a home run in Haughton’s loss. The Bucs dropped to 1-1.
