High school baseball: Benton takes game one against No. 1 seed Breaux Bridge in 4A quarterfinal series

The Benton Tigers defeated the Breaux Bridge Tigers 7-0 in game one of their best-of-three Class 4A quarterfinal series Friday night in Breaux Bridge.

Benton snapped Breaux Bridge’s 22-game winning streak. Game two was scheduled for 1 Saturday with game three, if necessary, following.

Benton improved to 26-12. Breaux Bridge dropped to 30-4.

Benton’s Andrew McPherson pitched a complete game. He wasn’t overpowering but he was effective, allowing six hits with one strikeout. He threw 100 pitches, inducing eight groundouts and 10 flyouts.

Three Benton players had multriple hits. Garrett Hable went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Clint Lasiter went 2-for-4 with a double. Cade Scott went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Peyton Long delivered a big blow in the fourth, smacking a three-run homer over the right-field wall with two strikes against him.

J.T. Brice, Lasiter and Scott led off the four-run inning with consecutive singles.

Benton scored its other three runs in the third on Hable’s triple, an error and Lasiter’s two-out double.
