The Haughton Bucs defeated the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles 5-1 Thursday in the first of a three-game series at Haughton.
The Airline Vikings and Benton Tigers dropped games in the Sulphur tournament. Airline fell to Sam Houston 10-0 and Benton lost to Sulphur 7-0.
Parkway’s game against Sterlington in the Barbe tournament was suspended after one inning because of inclement weather with the Panthers leading 1-0. Parkway is scheduled to play Zachary at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Barbe.
At Haughton, Austin Anderson (4-0) allowed just two hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked three. Roman Tolbert pitched a scoreless seventh.
Anderson and Tolbert also went 2-for-4. Colin Rains went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Chan Lytle had two RBI. Nick Hensley had a double.
Friday’s second game was originally scheduled to be played at Evangel. Due to field conditions it has been moved to Haughton at 5. Saturday’s game will be at Evangel at noon. Haughton Head Coach Glenn Maynor can now get his 600th career victory at home.
At the Sulphur tournament, Airline only had two hits in the five-inning game. The Vikings dropped to 6-4. Sam Houston, which lost to eventual state champion Barbe in the 5A semifinals last season, improved to 13-1.
Benton dropped to 6-5-2. The Tigers are scheduled to play Calvary Baptist at 4 and St.!Louis at 7 Friday. Sulphur improved to 14-3.
Elsewhere, Bossier fell to Haynesville 14-4 at the Bearkats’ field at Rusheon.
