High school baseball: Haughton edges Sterlington, improves to 4-1


The Haughton Bucs scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Sterlington 3-2 at Sterlington.

Haughton starter Austin Anderson (2-0) allowed just three hits in six innings and struck out nine. Roman Tolbert got the last out for his first save of the season.

Haughton (4-1) scored two runs in the top of the first. Sterlington tied it with two in the second.

Neither team scored again until the seventh.

Caleb Brown, who led off the inning with a single, scored the go-ahead run with one out.

The Bucs took advantage of two hit batters, a sacrifice bunt by Parker Lowrie and an intentional walk issued to Joshua Sewell.

Haughton begins a three-game series against Loyola at 5 p.m. Thursday at Loyola. The second game is scheduled for 5 Friday at Haughton. Saturday’s third game is at Loyola at 1.

Elsewhere, Bossier dropped a 20-4 decision to Southwood in five innings at the Bearkats’ field at Rusheon.

Bossier trailed 5-4 after three innings, but Southwood scored 10 in the top of the fourth.

Kaleb McClinton had the Bearkats’ only hit. AJ Shelton and Logan Bamburg drew two walks each.

Bossier is scheduled to play North Caddo on the first day of the North Caddo tournament Thursday at 7.
