High school baseball: Haughton, Parkway, Plain Dealing close regular season with wins


The Haughton Bucs, Parkway Panthers and Plain Dealing Lions posted victories Friday.

Haughton closed the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Harrisburg, Ark., 20-1 and 14-0, at Haughton.

Junior Colin Rains broke the school single-season doubles record with his 17th. Haughton assistant coach Justin Ginn set the previous record in 2007.

The Bucs (26-6) are No. 7 in the Class 5A power rankings, according to GeauxPreps.com. They will host a first-round playoff game next week.

Pairings will be announced Sunday. First-round games must be played by Wednesday.

Parkway completed the regular season with a 9-3 victory over Zwolle at Parkway.

The Panthers (21-13) are No. 12 in the power ratings. They will likely finish in the top 16 and host a first-round game.

Airline fell to Neville, No. 2 in the Class 4A ratings, 7-5 in its final regular-season game in Monroe.

The Vikings (18-13) are on the bubble to host a first-round game at No. 16 in the power ratings.

Plain Dealing defeated Lincoln Prep 13-3 at home. The Lions (8-11) are No. 18 in the Class 1A ratings.

At Parkway, Tanner Kirkland, Zach Schoenborn, Barrett Newman and Trenton Lape all had two hits.

Lape hit a solo home run. 

Kirkland had a double and two RBI. Schoenborn also had a double.

Ashton Martin had a triple. Maddox Cockerham had a double.

Starter Shawn Driggers allowed just one hit and struck out eight in 4 innings.

At Neville, Harrison Waxley went 3-for-4 with a double. Clayton Brandon and Tyler Ferguson both went 2-for-4. 

At Plain Dealing, Braeden Sterling went 2-for-2. Colton Davis drew three walks.

Reagan Foster gave up three hits and struck out eight in the five-inning game.
