New head coaches at Parkway and Benton have picked up their first victories.
Parkway’s “Sham” Gabehart got his Friday as the Panthers defeated Minden 9-6 at Minden.
Benton’s Dane Peavy got his Thursday when the Tigers defeated Pleasant Grove, Texas, 8-2 in the Marshall Maverick Invitational tournament.
Elsewhere, the Haughton Bucs split a doubleheader against 2021 Class 5A semifinalist West Monroe on the road.
Haughton won the first game 16-0 in five innings. West Monroe won the second 15-5 in six innings.
Bossier fell to North Caddo 22-2 in Jason Blackmon’s debut as head coach.
At Minden, Parkway starter Cade Josting allowed three hits and no runs in four innings. He struck out six and didn’t issue a walk.
Josting also went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Zach Schoenborn had a single and drew three walks. Colton Smith drove in two runs with a single in his only official at-bat. Tanner Kirkland had two RBI.
Parkway improved to 1-2.
At West Monroe, Haughton’s Ethan Robinson got his first win with the complete game. He allowed two hits, struck out four and walked none.
The Bucs (3-1) got 13 hits.
Joshua Sewell went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Chan Lytle hit a three-run home run and finished with four RBI.
Nick Hensley went 2-for-2. Colin Rains went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Jackson Voigt went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Brayden Stovall went 2-for-3.
Sewell, Rains and Roman Tolbert all had two hits in the second game.
The Bucs and Rebels are scheduled to meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Haughton.
Benton improved to 1-2 with its victory.
