High school baseball: Parkway, Airline post non-district victories, begin key 1-5A series Saturday

The Parkway Panthers and Airline Vikings picked up non-district victories Friday on the eve of the first game of their key District 1-5A series.

Parkway edged St. Frederick 4-3 at Parkway, and Airline downed Florien 18-1 at Airline.

The Panthers (14-11) host the Vikings at 1 p.m. Saturday. Airline leads the district at 7-1. Parkway is tied with Benton for second at 6-2.

At Parkway, the Panthers broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Shawn Driggers singled with one out and scored on Zachary Clute’s double to right field.

Sean Waits went the distance. He allowed five hits, struck out eight and walked one.

Zach Schoenborn went 2-for-3.

At Airline, 11 Vikings accounted for 13 hits in the five-inning game.

Harrison Waxley went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Clayton Brandon went 2-for-4.

Noah Littleton had two RBI.

Ian Sullivan, Logan Thurman and Matthew Scripture combined on a No-hitter. Starter Sullivan went three innings.
