High school baseball: Parkway, Benton, Airline pick up tournament victories

The Parkway Panthers, Benton Tigers and Airline Vikings picked up victories Saturday on the final day of the Monroe-area Trey Altick Classic.

Melvin Fayard pitched a no-hitter as Parkway defeated Alexandria Senior High 7-2 at West Ouachita. The Panthers also lost to Tioga 6-1 at Ruston.

Colby Sharp pitched a two-hitter as Benton defeated Loranger 6-0 at West Ouachita. Airline also got some outstanding pitching in an 11-3 victory over Bastrop at Sterlington. The Vikings also rallied for an 8-6 victory over Ouachita Parish.

Haughton fell to Tioga 8-6 at Cedar Creek and Pineville 7-4 at Ruston.

At West Ouachita, Fayard struck out seven in the no-hitter against ASH.

The Panthers pounded out 15 hits. Eric Brown went 3-for-4 with a solo home run. Caleb Reese had three hits, including two doubles. Parker Stevens also had three hits. Trevor Tamburo went 2-for-3.

Bryan Day went 2-for-3 with a double against Tioga. Eric Williams allowed just three hits and two earned runs in six innings.

Parkway (6-2) hosts Ouachita Christian on Tuesday.

At West Ouachita, Sharp struck out six and didn’t walk a batter against Loranger.

Conner Smith had two hits and three RBI. Cole Horton had two hits.

Benton (7-4) hosts Woodlawn in a District 1-4A game Tuesday.

At Sterlington, three pitchers combined on a two-hitter in Airline’s win over Bastrop.

Starter Will Tynes allowed just one hit and struck out five in four innings. Colby Richard gave up one hit in 2 1/3 innings. Chris Hayes got the final two outs.

Anthony Mulrenin went 3-for-3 with a double. Josh James had two hits and two RBI. Hagan Brandon had two RBI.

Sixteen Vikings made plate appearances.

At Ouachita Parish, the Vikings trailed the Lions 4-1 after five innings. Airline scored twice in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to one and then tacked on five in the seventh to take an 8-4 lead.

The Vikings had only one hit in the sixth, an RBI-single by Cameron Parikh. But they took advantage of three walks and two errors.

Jonathan Brandon had a solo home run in the third inning. He also had a double. Hagan Brandon had two RBI, including one in the sixth. Chase Hodges had a double and walked three times.

Starter Ryan Lawhorne went five innings and allowed six hits. Bryson Connell got the win in relief.

Airline improved to 6-3.

At Ruston, CJ McWilliams had two doubles and two RBI in Haughton’s loss to Pineville.

At Cedar Creek, Tioga scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past the Bucs. Cade Thompson went 2-for-3.

Haughton (4-6) visits Northwood on Monday.
