The Parkway Panthers and the Benton Tigers begin second-round baseball playoff series today.
Parkway (24-8), the No. 9 seed, faces defending state champion and No. 8 Central (22-10-1) in Baton Rouge at 6:30 p.m. in Class 5A. Game two is scheduled for noon Saturday. Game three, if necessary, will begin immediately following game two.
Central defeated Parkway 5-1 in the first round last year.
Benton (23-12), the No. 9 seed, takes on No. 8 Belle Chasse (24-9) at 6 p.m. in Belle Chasse in Class 4A. Game two is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. Game three, if necessary, is set for 3.
Benton is seeking its sixth straight appearance in the quarterfinals.
This is the second straight year the Tigers and the Cardinals are meeting in the second round. Benton won two games to one last year, losing the first game 6-2 and winning the final two 8-0 and 10-1.
Parkway defeated No. 24 Ponchatoula 2-1 in the first round on Collier Cloinger’s walk-off single. Central downed No. 25 Hahnville 10-3.
Benton edged No. 24 Pearl River 3-2 in the first round on Cade Scott’s walk-off double. Belle Chasse slipped past No. 24 Morgan City 4-3.
