High school baseball: Parkway, Benton suffer close losses


The Parkway Panthers and Benton Tigers suffered close losses Tuesday.

Parkway fell to Loyola 3-1 at Parkway. Benton lost to Calvary Baptist by the same score at Benton.

Haughton’s game against Minden was postponed because of rain. It is scheduled to be made up Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Minden. The Bucs will take a 9-2 record into the game.

At Parkway, Panthers starter Tyler Bouillion pitched five strong innings, allowing just three hits, no walks and one earned run while striking out five.

Zachary Clute struck out four in two innings of relief. He allowed two hits and one earned run.

But the Panthers managed just three hits, including a double by Bouillon.

Loyola improved to 7-5 with its fourth straight win.

Parkway (6-7) is scheduled to play Sterlington at 3:30 Thursday on the first day of the Barbe tournament.

At Benton, the Tigers dropped 6-4-2 with the loss.

Preston Hill’s single in the bottom of the seventh scored Benton’s only run.

Per Calvary stats, Benton allowed only four hits. Starter Bryson Pierce allowed one hit and no runs in three innings with three strikeouts. Cale Latimer gave up one hit in two innings and struck out three. Daniel Jayroe allowed two hits and no runs in two innings.

Calvary starter Cody VanNoppen allowed two hits and walked three in four innings.

Calvary improved to 9-5 with its fourth victory in a row.

Benton is scheduled to play Sulphur at 4 Thursday on the first day of the Sulphur tournament. The Tigers are scheduled to face Calvary again at 4 Friday.
