The Parkway Panthers completed a two-game District 1-5A sweep of the Airline Vikings Tuesday at Airline.
Elsewhere in 1-5A, Haughton routed Southwood 17-2 at Southwood and Byrd defeated Natchitoches Central 5-3 at Byrd’s field at LSUS.
Parkway (17-11, 8-2) and Benton (16-9-2, 8-2) are tied for the district lead with two series to play. Airline (15-10, 7-3) is third and Haughton (18-6, 6-4) fourth. They are followed by Captain Shreve (11-16, 4-6), Byrd (13-12, 4-6), Natchitoches Central (14-14, 3-7) and Southwood (5-21, 0-10).
At Airline, Parkway pitchers Sean Waits and Cade Josting shut down the Vikings’ offense.
The Panthers led 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Vikings tried to rally, scoring a run on a bases-loaded walk with one out.
But first baseman Zach Schoenborn ended the game with an unassisted double play after catching a line drive.
Trenton Lape, Tanner Kirkland and Shawn Driggers had two hits apiece for Parkway.
Lape and Kirkland had one double and an RBI each. Schoenborn and Driggers also had doubles.
Schoenborn’s double came with two outs in the top of the first. Tyler Bouillion, running for Schoenborn, scored on Cameron Fink’s single.
The score remained 1-0 through four innings. Parkway put three on the board in the top of the fifth.
Driggers led off with his double and reached third on Barrett Newman’s sacrifice bunt. Lape then scored Carter Wells, running for Driggers, with his double.
Lape advanced to third on an error and scored on Kirkland’s sacrifice fly. Schoenborn was hit by a pitch and Fink drew a walk. Ashton Martin then made it 4-0 with a single.
The Panthers took advantage of a couple of errors to add a run in the top of the seventh.
Parkway is scheduled to open a two-game series at Natchitoches Central at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Airline is scheduled to host North Caddo Wednesday at 6 and the open a series at Benton Thursday at 6.
At Southwood, Haughton scored nine runs on five singles, three errors and a walk en route to the five-inning victory.
Colin Rains, Nick Hensley, Caleb Brown and Parker Lowrie all had two hits.
Rains, Lowrie and Joshua Sewell had two RBI apiece.
Starter Zach Ross allowed three hits and struck out four in three innings.
Haughton is scheduled to host D’Arbonne Woods at 5 Wednesday and then open a series against Byrd at 6 Thursday at Byrd’s LSUS field.
