High school baseball: Parkway downs DeRidder; tough night for parish’s other 5A teams

The Parkway Panthers defeated DeRidder 13-3 in six innings Tuesday at DeRidder.

Elsewhere, Benton fell to Ruston 4-3 at Benton, Haughton lost to Sterlington 4-2 at Sterlington and Airline fell to Texas High 14-1 in six innings at Airline.

At DeRidder, winning pitcher Sean Waits went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Gabe Armond went 2-for-3. 

Shawn Driggers had a double and two RBI. Jax Thomson had two RBI. Kamron Blackshire drew three walks.

Waits scattered five hits in five innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Parkway (5-1) is scheduled to play in the Northwood tournament later this week.

At Ruston, the Bearcats broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the fifth.

Three Benton pitchers limited Ruston to two hits but the Bearcats took advantage of some mistakes.

Starter Tanner Webb allowed two hits and one earned run in 4 2/3 inninngs.

Jackson Jones went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Griffin Sibley and Webb both doubled.

Benton (5-1) hosts Loyola Thursday.

At Sterlington, Haughton’s Christian Turner went 2-for-3 with a double. JP Cormier and Zach Ross both had RBI-doubles.

Haughton (4-2) is scheduled to play in the Northwood tournament later this week.

At Airline, the Vikings had four hits. 

Airline (1-4) faces Jena at Neville at 4:30 Thursday in the Trey Altick Classic hosted by Ouachita Christian.
