The Parkway Panthers took sole possession of the District 1-5A lead Thursday.
Parkway defeated Natchitoches Central 7-1 in the first of their two-game series at Parkway.
Meanwhile, Airline knocked Benton out of a share of the lead with an 18-1 victory at Benton.
Haughton stayed in the hunt with an 11-4 victory over Byrd at Byrd’s LSU field.
In the other 1-5A game, Captain Shreve defeated Southwood 16-5 at Southwood.
Parkway improved to 18-11 and 9-2. Airline (16-10, 8-3) and Benton (16-10-2, 8-3) are tied for second, one game back. Haughton (20-6, 7-4) is fourth followed by Captain Shreve (12-16, 5-6), Byrd (13-13, 4-7), Natchitoches Central (14-15, 3-8) and Southwood (5-24, 0-11).
At Parkway, the Panthers only had four hits but they capitalized on nine walks.
Ashton Martin went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. He also drew two walks.
Shawn Driggers had two RBI. Zach Schoenborn drew three walks.
Started Tyler Bouillion scattered six hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked four.
The Panthers didn’t get anything going until the bottom of the fourth. Trailing 1-0, they took the lead for good with two runs. Parkway added three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The teams are scheduled to complete the series at 1 p.m. Saturday in Natchitoches.
At Benton, Airline, which only scored one run in its previous series against Parkway, erupted for 13 in the top of the first.
Keegan Lehr had a double and single in the inning. Mason Morgan and Caleb Hemmings had two singles each. Caden Long, Matthew Scripture and Clayton Brandon also had singles.
Hemmings finished 4-for-4 with a double in the five-inning game. Morgan went 3-for-4 with a double.
Lehr went 2-for-3. Brandon went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Harrison Waxley had a double.
Tyler Ferguson pitched a two-hitter.
The series is scheduled to conclude at 1 p.m. Saturday at Airline.
At LSUS, Chandler Lytle, Roman Tolbert and Parker Lowrie had two hits apiece. Lowrie and Tolbert both had doubles. Colin Rains scored three runs.
Austin Anderson (7-1) went 6 1/3 innings for the win. He also had two RBI.
The Bucs scored one run in the top of the first. They added four runs in the top of the fourth to go up 5-0.
Lowrie hit his double and Lytle singled. Nick Hensley had a sacrifice bunt. The Bucs also took advantage of two walks, an error and a wild pitch.
The Yellow Jackets got back in it with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. But Haughton answered with two in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
The series is scheduled to conclude at 1 Saturday at Haughton.
