High school baseball: Parkway’s Williams, Haughton’s Heckman take top honors on All-District 1-5A team

Bossier Parish players swept the individual honors on the All-District 1-5A baseball team selected by the district’s coaches.
Haughton senior Nick Heckman was named Pitcher of the Year. Parkway senior outfielder Eric “EJ” Williams was named Most Valuable Player.
Heckman went 8-3 with a 0.99 ERA. He struck out 69 in 63 1/3 innings. Heckman went 5-0 in district with a 0.48 ERA.
Williams batted .385 with seven home runs, 10 doubles and 36 RBI.
Four other players from district runner-up Parkway made the first team — junior catcher Caleb Reese, junior third baseman Eric Brown, junior shortstop Amani Larry and senior utility Derious Bradford.
Reese hit .430 with nine doubles, three triples, five home runs and 30 RBI. Brown hit .340 with six doubles, three triples, three home runs and 29 RBI.
Larry had an on-base percentage of .504. He hit .379 with 12 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI. Larry was also hit by pitches 14 times.
Bradford batted .343 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 15 RBI.
Senior outfielder Lake Lowery and freshman utility Peyton Stovall of third-place Haughton also made the first team.
Lowery batted .327. Stovall batted .310 with nine doubles, one triple, one home run and 22 RBI.
Senior pitcher Jerry Couch was Airline’s line representative on the first team. He had a 3.25 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings. He was 2-1 in district with a 1.85 ERA.
Parkway’s second-team selections were senior pitchers George Booras and Matthew McKee.
Haughton’s second-team selections were senior catcher Mason Simmons, senior first baseman Jathon Patton and sophomore shortstop CJ McWilliams.
Airline’s second-team selections were sophomore pitcher Bryson Connell, senior second baseman Chris Hayes, senior outfielder Hunter Hollis and junior designated hitter Hayden Travinski.
Todd Sharp of district champion Captain Shreve was named Coach of the Year. He guided the Gators to a 34-6 record, including 10-2 in district.
