High school bowling: Holiday Lanes to host half of boys state playoff matches through quarterfinals Monday


The matches in the bottom half of the LHSAA boys bowling playoffs will be held at Holiday Lanes through the quarterfinals Monday.

Airline and Haughton made the boys playoffs. In two of the four 10:30 a.m. first-round matches, No. 27 Haughton (7-3) faces No. 6 Archbishop Shaw (11-1), and No. 30 Airline (6-4) takes on No. 3 Denham Springs (12-0).

Four second-round matches are scheduled for 1:15 p.m. followed by two quarterfinal matches at 3:15. The quarterfinal winners advance to the Ochsner Bowling State Tournament March 31 at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge.

Matches in the top half of the 32-team boys bracket are being held at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.

No parish team made the 16-team girls playoffs. Matches through the quarterfinals are being held Wednesday at Premier Acadiana in Lafayette.

Airline’s Paris Mendones and LaBresha Lars qualified for the girls singles tournament. Mendones’ 188 season average is tied for fourth among the 48 qualifiers. Lars ranks 12th with a 178 average.

Mendones finished fourth last year with a four-game series of 797. 

Defending champion Jayden Hauck of Hammond has the state’s best average among girls with a 227. Last season she bowled a four-game series of 906.

Airline’s Chris Kouba was the only parish bowler to qualify for the boys singles tournament. His 186 season average ranks 58th among the 80 qualifiers.

Benton’s Ben Miller and Jack Perrett are alternates. The both averaged 179, one below the cutoff.

Preston West of Dutchtown has the state’s best average among boys with a 238.

Both singles tournaments are April 1.
