High school boys basketball: Airline, Bossier close regular season with victories

The Airline Vikings and Bossier Bearkats closed the regular season with victories Friday night.

Airline defeated Benton 59-48 in a District 1-5A game at Benton. Bossier defeated Neville 85-76 in overtime in a non-district game in Monroe.

Also in 1-5A, Haughton fell to district champion Captain Shreve 57-38 at Haughton, and Parkway lost to Natchitoches Central 85-49 at Parkway.

In a District 1-1A regular-season finale, Plain Dealing dropped a 79-66 decision to Northwood at Northwood.

At Airline, Colby O’glee poured in 23 points to lead the Vikings.

AJ Coleman added 13 and Cam Walker 12.

Airline led 17-16 after the first quarter. O’glee scored 12 points. Benton’s Greg Manning nearly matched him with 10. 

With senior Wylyn Harris scoring eight of his team-high 15, Benton took a 28-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Vikings outscored the Tigers 11-8 in the third quarter for a 37-36 lead.

Walker scored six points to help Airline pull away in the fourth. The Vikings hit 7-of-11 free throws in the quarter. Walker and Christian Minor sank three each.

Benton senior Jalen Taylor scored six of his 10 points in the fourth.

Cliff Joyce, who hit two 3-pointers, scored 11 points for the Tigers.

Benton closed its season 11-23 and 4-10 in district.

Airline (16-9, 10-4) finished third in 1-5A behind Shreve (25-5, 13-1) and Natchitoches Central (22-6, 11-3).

According to GeauxPreps.com, Airline is No. 17 in the Class 5A power rankings. The top 16 teams in the final official LHSAA ratings host first-round playoff games. Pairings will be announced Monday.

At Neville, Bossier led 34-27 at the half and 49-41 after three quarters. Neville rallied in the fourth and the game went into overtime tied at 62. The Bearkats caught fire in OT, outscoring the Tigers 23-14.

Joseph Manning led Bossier with 27 points. Marquis Harris added 18.

Tahj Roots and Javon Johnson each scored 16. Both players had two 3-pointers.

The Bearkats withstood a monster night by Neville’s PD McCraney, who knocked down six 3-pointers and scored 44 points.

The Tigers (24-7) are No. 7 in the Class 4A power ratings.

Bossier (24-7) is No. 2 in Class 3A and will be the second seed in the playoffs.

At Haughton, KJ Allen led the Bucs with 13 points. JJ Dudley and Laythan Delaney scored nine each.

Haughton finished the season 15-15 and 3-11 in district.

At Northwood, Carnez Hillmon led the Lions with 22 points. Kendric Blanks added 15.

Jamuriel Ray scored 10, and Jayden Gay had nine.

Plain Dealing (4-19) is No. 25 in the Class 1A power ratings, according to GeauxPreps.com. The top 24 teams make the playoffs.

Magnolia School of Excellence is listed at No. 22. Magnolia discontinued its season in January before the start of district play.

At Parkway, Brhaelyn Brown scored nine points to lead Parkway. Christian McCoy and Jayden Hardy had seven each.

Dalyn Davis led Natchitoches Central with 33.

Parkway closed its season 6-20 and 1-13.
