High school boys basketball: Big fourth quarter helps Parkway stun Huntington

The Parkway Panthers opened District 1-5A play with an 81-68 victory over the Huntington Raiders Tuesday night at Huntington.

The game was tied at 52 after three quarters. The Panthers erupted for 29 points in the fourth.

Four Parkway players scored in double figures. Caleb Evans had a game-high 23. Jacob Gaskins had 15, Kaleb Williams 13 and Antonio Gladney 12. Gary Burney and Tristan Sedberry scored eight each.

Gaskins stepped up in the fourth quarter with 11 points. Evans had eight and Gladney six.

Gaskins and Evans both had conventional three-point plays.

Parkway trailed 17-15 after the first quarter. Burney hit two 3-pointers in the quarter and Evans scored seven points.

Sedberry and Williams knocked down 3-pointers in the second. The Panthers rallied for a 35-31 halftime lead. The Raiders came back to tie it going into the fourth.

Peyton Parker led Huntington (16-6, 1-1) with 19 points.

Parkway (12-9, 1-0) visits Natchitoches Central (15-5, 2-0) Friday. The Chiefs defeated Byrd 83-51 in Natchitoches Tuesday.

In the other 1-5A games, Airline fell to Evangel Christian 53-44 at Evangel snd Benton lost to Captain Shreve 65-34 at Shreve.

Airline (9-11, 1-1) hosts Captain Shreve (16-7, 2-0) Friday. Evangel improved to 10-11 and 1-1.

At Captain Shreve, Maddox Martinez led Benton (6-11, 0-2) with 10 points. Greg Chambers added seven.

The Tigers host Quitman Friday in a non-district game.

In a non-district game, Providence Classical Academy defeated Plain Dealing 52-14 at Plain Dealing.
