High school boys basketball: Bossier advances to quarterfinals of Bossier Invitational

The Bossier Bearkats advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bossier Invitational with a 77-42 victory over the Benton Tigers Thursday night.

The Airline Vikings and Parkway Panthers both suffered first-round losses. Airline fell to Good Vision (Houston) 81-74 and Parkway lost to Calvary Baptist 69-32.

In other first-round games. Ouachita Parish defeated Loyola 64-33, Neville topped Mansfield 64-40, Evangel Christian downed Northwood 56-39 and Huntington defeated Booker T. Washington 82-64.

In Friday’s quarterfinals, Ouachita Parish (12-4) faces Good Vision at 4 p.m., Huntington (12-4) takes on Captain Shreve (10-5) at 5:30, Calvary Baptist (12-2) plays Evangel Christian (9-8) at 7 and Bossier (5-7) faces Neville (12-4) at 8:30.

In consolation games, Airline (6-10) plays Loyola (7-8) at 10 a.m., Benton (6-7) meets Mansfield (8-11) at 11:30, BTW (12-4) faces West Monroe (6-7) at 1 and Parkway (8-8) plays Northwood (6-12) at 2:30.

Kerel Dean and Jatavion Bunnery led nine Bossier players who scywith 16 points each. Dean, a Xavier signee, has now scored more than 1,000 points in his career.

David Thomas scored 12, all on 3-pointers. Jordyn Floyd and Kam Davenport chipped in nine each.

D’Colby Chambers and Greg Chambers led Benton with 14 and 13 points, respectively. D’Colby hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Bossier got off to a fast start and led 27-7 after the first quarter. Davenport hit three 3-pointers and Thomas two in the quarter. The Bearkats had 10 3-pointers in the game.

Bunnery scored eight in the second quarter and Bossier led 45-20 at the half.

Jaydan Gladney poured in 23 points to lead Airline. Joshua White added 17. Eli Washington sank three 3-pointers and scored 11. Jaden Davis had 10.

The Vikings made 12 3-pointers.

Airline trailed 45-36 at the half. The Vikings hit three from behind the arc in the third quarter and cut the lead to 58-54.

The Wolf Pack knocked down three 3s in the fourth and outscored the Vikings 23-20 for the win.

Fernando Camareno and Jamir Major led Good Vision with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Jordy Ndjomo added 17.

Parkway got into an early hole against Calvary. The Panthers had trouble getting going offensively and trailed 36-18 at the half.

The Cavaliers used their quickness and height advantage to dominate.

Bubba Strong led nine Calvary players who scored with 14 points. Tyrone Jamison added 13.

Caleb Williams led Parkway with 10 points. Antonio Gladney had eight.
