The Bossier Bearkats completed a perfect run through District 1-4A with a 63-19 rout of North DeSoto at Bossier.
The Bearkats improved to 15-11 overall and completed district play 7-0.
Elsewhere, the Parkway Panthers came very close to claiming a share of the District 1-5A championship.
Parkway rallied from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter against Captain Shreve at Parkway. The Panthers got within one with 30.3 seconds left but the Gators hung on for a 57-56 victory.
Parkway (17-11, 6-2) and Captain Shreve (19-11, 6-2) finished tied for second, one game behind Natchitoches Central (21-6, 7-1), which defeated Airline 68-57 Friday at Airline.
Elsewhere, Benton defeated Evangel Christian 39-36 at Benton and Haughton fell to Huntington 66-59 at Huntington.
At Parkway, the Panthers trailed 50-39 after three quarters.
Jake Gaskins hit a 3-pointer to cut the Gators’ lead to 54-48 with just over four minutes to play.
Caleb Evans made two free throws with 2:58 left to get Parkway within four.
The Gators spent most of the final four minutes of the game trying to take time off the clock and it almost backfired. Parkway’s tight, trapping defense forced turnovers.
Shreve went up 56-50 with two minutes left.
KB Williams drove down the lane for a layup with 1:20 left. Gaskins intercepted a pass near midcourt and passed to Tristan Sedberry for a layup. That made it a two-point game with just over a minute to play.
Shreve missed two free throws with 49.8 seconds left. Parkway made one of two free throws to cut the lead to 55-54 with 30.3 seconds left. The Gators then made a pair of free throws with 28 seconds remaining.
Parkway called a time out with 16.7 seconds left. With 8.7 seconds left the ball went out of bounds and the Panthers retained possession.
The Panthers got the ball to Evans inside the 3-point line. He was surrounded by three Gators but still managed to get a shot off from behind the arc with about 3.5 seconds left. It bounced off the rim. Parkway got the putback as time ran out.
Evans had an outstanding night with 22 points. He banked in a 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer to get Parkway within 25-16.
After Shreve grabbed a 29-16 lead in the third, he scored nine straight points on two 3-pointers and a three-point play to cut the lead to 31-27.
Gaskins had 12 points. Williams and Sedberry scored seven each.
JD McDonald led seven Captain Shreve players who scored with 14.
At Bossier, Jatravion Bunnery and David Thomas led 10 Bearkats who scored with 13 points each. Ethan Dodson chipped in 10.
Bossier led 18-10 after the first quarter and 36-16 at the half,
At Airline, the Vikings’ Jaydan Gladney continued his outstanding season with 29 points. Airline dropped to 11-18 overall and 3-5 in district.
At Benton, the Tigers improved to 9-15 overall and 2-6.
At Haughton, the Bucs closed the regular season 17-13 and 3-5.
