The Bossier Bearkats and Parkway Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals of the LHSAA playoffs with victories in their respective divisions Tuesday night.
Bossier, the No. 4 seed, rolled past No. 13 Assimption 69-41 in a non-select Division II second-round game at Bossier, The Bearkats will host No. 5 Franklin Parish (23-7) later this week for a spot in the state tournament. Assumption finished 22-10.
Bossier is in the quarterfinals for the eighth straight year.
Parkway pulled its second straight big upset in overtime on the road. No. 23 Panthers knocked off No. 7 Sulphur 63-57 in a non-select Division I second-round game.
Parkway (15-15) will visit No. 2 Ruston later this week. The Bearcats defeated No. 18 Barbe 74-38 in the second round at home.
Parkway ended Sulphur’s 16-game winning streak. The Tors closed 27-5,
Parkway is in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2015. The Panthers made it as the No. 22 seed.
At Bossier, the Bearkats got off to a slow start offensively but still led 11-6 after the first quarter.
Braylon Robinson scored 10 of his 18 points on the second quarter and Bossier extended the lead to 27-17 at the half.
The Bearkats basically sealed the victory in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 19-5. Six Bossier players scored in the quarter. Ron Dillard scored nine of his game-high 19 in the fourth.
Ty’jai Jones led Assumption with 10 points.
At Sulphur, Parkway led most of the game but the Tors took the lead late. Caleb Evans missed a 3-pointer to win it. But he got the rebound and scored, sending the game into overtime tied at 50.
Like they did in the first-round victory over No. 10 Slidell, the Panthers dominated the extra period.
Four Panthers scored in overtime. Kaleb Williams was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Tristan Sedberry scored four points, Christian Thomas three and Evans one.
Parkway was able to get Sulphur in foul trouble and three Tors fouled out.
Williams and Evans hit 3-pointers in the first quarter and Parkway led 10-9. The Panthers limited Sulphur to six points in the second quarter. Antonio Gladney scored six in the quarter and Desmond Wright five. Parkway led 23-15 at the half.
The third quarter was about even and the Panthers led to 38-31 going into the fourth.
The Tors then rallied to force overtime.
Sulphur’s Cole Doucet scored nine of his 29 points in the fourth. He had 18 in the second half.
Williams led Parkway with 15 points. Sedberry had 14. Evans scored eight of his 11 points in the second half and overtime.
Gladney and Wright scored nine each. Thomas had four.
