The Bossier Bearkats, Plain Dealing Lions and Airline Vikings posted victories as the high school boys basketball season got underway Tuesday night.
Bossier nipped Southwood 61-60 at Southwood in Nick Bohanan’s debut as head coach. Plain Dealing routed Magnolia Charter 80-28 at Plain Dealing in Norm Picou’s debut as head coach. Airline downed Northwood 57-50 at Northwood.
At Southwood, sophomore Dante Bell’s putback at the buzzer lifted Bossier to the victory. The Bearkats outscored the Cowboys 20-7 in the third quarter and led 45-39 going into the fourth. But the Cowboys, under new head coach Eddie Hamilton, rallied and took the lead late.
Jacoby Decker, a first-team All-Parish selection last season, led Bossier with 21 points. Tyron McCoy added 17, Kaalas Roots 11 and Bell 10.
At Plain Dealing, Ty Thomas hit four 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead the Lions to the victory.
Darrien Perry also had a big night from long range, hitting five 3-pointers. He finished with 21 points. Jakaleb McGee added 15.
The Lions rolled to a 20-8 first-quarter lead and led 46-21 at the half.
At Northwood, Kedrick Henderson poured in 21 points to lead the Vikings.
