The Bossier Bearkats finished runner-up in the Bossier Invitational.
After defeating Good Vision Academy 67-54 in the semifinals Saturday afternoon, the Bearkats ran into a buzzsaw in the finals against Calvary Baptist. The hot-shooting Cavaliers got off to a fast start and rolled to a 67-29 victory.
Still, it was a successful tournament for Bossier (8-9), which has been up and down this season. Calvary, which defeated Captain Shreve 53-13 in the semifinals, improved to 15-2.
The tournament returned to a bracket tournament for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic. It featured 16 teams and the gym was packed all three nights.
Kerel Dean, who was named to the all-tournament team, led Bossier against Good Vision with 24 points. It was his second straight game with 24.
David Thomas hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points. Kam Davenport and Javonte Small scored 10 each.
Good Vision led 14-11 late in the first quarter. Bossier took the lead for good with an 8-0 run.
The Bearkats led 32-28 at the half. The Wolf Pack got within 37-35 but Bossier extended the lead to 48-40 after three quarters. Good Vision got no closer in the fourth as the Bearkats pulled away.
In the championship game, Calvary hit a 3-pointer for the first points. The Cavaliers never cooled off.
Tyrone Johnson, an all-tournament selection, led Calvary with 25 points. He hit four 3-pointers. Tournament MVP Jaiden Hall added 14. Bubba Strong had 11.
The Cavaliers, who made nine 3-pointers, led 24-5 after the first quarter and 43-19 at the half. The domination continued in the second half.
Dean led Bossier with 12 points.
Captain Shreve defeated Good Vision 61-49 in the third-place game.
