High school boys golf: Airline freshman Greene runner-up in District 1-I tournament; Benton’s Bryant qualifies for regional

Airline freshman Hudson Greene finished runner-up in the District 1, Division I tournament Tuesday afternoon at Querbes Park Golf Course.

Greene shot a 2-under 69. He finished two strokes behind medalist Maddox Mowad of Neville.

Greene and Mowad were the only players to break par.

Neville’s Will Porter, West Monroe’s Cole Masters and Byrd’s James Holtsclaw shot 71s. Byrd’s Lane Smith and Shep finished tied for fifth with 72s.

The top four teams qualified for the Region 1-I tournament at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria. The top four individuals on teams outside the top four also qualifed.

Greene and Benton senior Kade Bryant, who shot a 74, were among those. 

The only local team that qualified was district champion Byrd. The Yellow Jackets shot 4-over 288. Alexandria finished second at 292, Ruston third at 298 and Neville fourth at 299.

Airline finished fifth at 322 and Benton sixth at 327.

Airline’s Gerriel Cole shot a 77. Andrew Sawrie had an 84, Landon Pilcher a 92 and Zach Jones a 93.

Benton’s other scores were Austin Race with an 80, Gage Davis with a 91, Cavitt Hilburn with a 92 and Mason Duggan with a 94.

Jaiden Gonzalez led Haughton with a 79. Christian Dortch shot an 85.
