The Benton Tigers won the Shamocus Patton Benton Tiger Relays as the outdoor track and field season got underway Thursday.
Benton scored 118.5 points. North DeSoto was second with 93.5, just a half point ahead of third-place Airline. Parkway and Mansfield tied for fourth with 72.
Benton’s Mason Haley and Mark Perry were double winners.
Haley won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 27.18 seconds and the 3,200 in 9:56.58.
In the 1,600, Haley finished 20.29 seconds ahead of runner-up Landon Spears of West Monroe.
Parkway sophomore Gabriel Falting finished less than three seconds behind Haley in the 3,200. His time of 9:59.37 was the best by a sophomore in school history.
Perry won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet and the triple jump with a 42-11.5.
Benton’s other winners individual winners were Mason Neill and Davis Sellers.
Neill won the pole vault with an 11-6. Haughton’s Laiden Broadway was second, clearing 11-0.
Sellers won the discus with a throw of 139-9.5. Airline’s Malik Word was second with a 123-9.
Sellers also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 46-5. North DeSoto’s Marques Hampton won with a 47-7.5.
Benton’s Austin Richard, Justin Bradford, Bernabe Mancilla and Austin Parker captured the 4X800 relay in 8:51.72.
Haughton junior John Ecot picked up where he left off last year, winning the 100 in 11.18.?He beat runner-up Tacoreion Thomas of North DeSoto by .23.
Ecot also ran the anchor leg on the Bucs’ winning 4X100 relay team. Ecot, Dexter Smith, Christian Obregon and Dimitri Williams ran a 43.00.
Airline’s Jeremiah Boudreaux won the 300 hurdle in 4.41 and finished second in the 110 in 16.17. He was also second in the triple jump with a 39-5.
Haughton’s Kenneth Smith took the 800 in 2:07.18.
Parkway’s Will Achee was second in the 400 in 52.46. Mansfield’s Jamarius Washington won in 51.6.
Parkway’s Demontayvious Blackwell was second in the long jump with a 20-6, just 5 inches shorter than MonQuavius Wells of Mansfield.
The Benton foursome of Ashton Jordan, Richard, Barnabe Mancilla and Salvador Mancilla finished second in the 4X400 in 3:41.83.
The Airline foursome of Cameron Jefferson, Justin Washington, Rob Patterson and Donte’ LaCour took second in the 4X200 in 1:32.83.0
The Parkway foursome of Charles Ruliffson, Noah Fox, Alex Gomez and Jesus Cordova finished second in the 4X800 in 8:54.56.
Third-place finishers from parish schools were Benton’s Landon Duggan (100), Airline’s Washington (200), Haughton’s Smith (1,600), Haughton’s Tyler Stewart (110 hurdles), Airline’s Kye Lehr (300 hurdles), Airline’s Tyson Burns (pole vault), Haughton’s Amryon Lars (long jump) and Parkway’s Jake Morton (shot put, discus).
