The Parkway Panthers won the District 1-5A championship Friday, edging runner-up Airline by two points.

Parkway scored 112 points. Airline had 110. Huntington was third with 88, Captain Shreve fourth with 86 and Benton fifth.

The meet was suspended Thursday night because of inclement weather with five running events remaining. All field events had been completed.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the Region I-5A meet Wednesday at Northwestern State.

Parkway had a 10-point lead going into the final event, the 4X400. The Panthers didn’t have a team entered. Airline finished second in 3 minutes, 27.12 seconds, a mere .43 behind Huntington. The eights points earned left the Vikings two points short.
